The Bowen Technique is a completely non-invasive, modern approach to working with the body, encouraging it to initiate the process of self-healing. It is classified as one of the manual techniques, where specific movements of the thumbs on precisely defined points on the body stimulate the body’s self-healing process.
The Bowen Technique has no contraindications and is recommended for all ages—from newborn babies to the elderly.
It requires a decision to stimulate and guide the body through the process of self-healing, which we are naturally gifted with at birth.
The average time interval between treatments is 7 days, which is the optimal period needed for the body to respond to the procedure and the message we have sent. Aggravation is an intensified reaction that may occur as a result of the body’s rapid response to the procedure we have recognized.
The Bowen technique can be extremely beneficial in supporting those dealing with depression, as it offers a holistic approach to both body and mind. It helps reduce stress, tension, and improve emotional well-being. This gentle manual technique uses specific, light movements on certain points of the body, affecting the central nervous system and energy flows. In this way, the Bowen technique can stimulate deep relaxation, restore balance, and improve mood.
Reduction of Stress and Anxiety Levels: Bowen movements stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation and restoring balance in the body. This effect can reduce feelings of anxiety and tension, which are often associated with depression.
Support for Emotional Balance: The Bowen technique affects the body’s energy flow, removing blockages that may be caused by emotional stress. Clients often experience relief after treatments, which helps them better cope with emotional challenges.
Improvement of Sleep Quality: Regular Bowen treatments can lead to better sleep, which is essential for emotional health. Quality sleep helps regulate hormones and neurotransmitters that affect mood, such as serotonin and dopamine.
Alleviating Physical Symptoms of Depression: Depression is often accompanied by physical symptoms, such as muscle tension, headaches, and digestive issues. Bowen movements release muscle tension and stimulate lymphatic flow, reducing pain and improving overall physical condition, which positively impacts mental health.
Encouraging Self-Awareness and Deeper Connection with the Body: Bowen technique helps individuals connect with their bodies and become aware of feelings that may have been suppressed or ignored. This awareness can play an important role in the healing process and in finding inner peace.
The combination of physical and emotional relief provided by the Bowen technique can support the mental health of individuals struggling with depression by reducing symptoms and providing a sense of relaxation and emotional balance.
Years, deteriorating overall health, and inhumane working conditions over the years led to a point where my movement became difficult and limited. The thing I missed the most was peaceful sleep, and so did my family. My legs were tired, swollen, and I frequently experienced painful cramps, first at night and then during the day. As the cramps subsided, I began to feel increasing pain in the affected area. After changing jobs, I attempted to resolve the problem through the public health system. I followed the prescribed therapy and recommendations to the letter. However, there was no improvement. Lab tests, imaging… from specialist to specialist… exams as though I were applying for NASA. My faith and patience were running out. At my daughter’s insistence, I agreed to visit the Alvita Plus clinic. Finally, peaceful sleep. No more cramps, no more pain. In the mornings, I can stretch without fear.
My experience was positive. Aleksandra’s dedication is exceptional. I appreciate her approach to both the patient and the problem. Calm, systematic, willing to explain and help. I’m glad I was patient because after the first few treatments, I experienced some reactions from my body that I didn’t expect. After going through this adjustment and returning to normal, everything got better—and drastically better.
Specifically, the experience: on the first therapy, the start was extremely painful. During the second part, I fell asleep because I was so relaxed. At the end, Aleksandra told me to wait two minutes before getting up. That’s when I felt my feet moving. I lifted my head and looked, and my feet were still, but I felt everything shifting inside them. It was somewhat eerie. That night after the first therapy, I had the strongest cramps I’d ever had, in the inner thighs. The cramp was so intense that I couldn’t straighten my legs, and it lasted a very long time. My first thought was that it had all been in vain. However, when the cramp subsided, there was no longer any pain in the usual spots. Aleksandra’s words were, “Bowen works.” After the second therapy, my knees hurt, and sometimes I couldn’t rely on them. After the third therapy, my hips were slightly off. But all of that passed quickly and returned to normal, just like the quality of my life. After each therapy, I felt better. Now, my visits to the clinic are less frequent, and in the meantime, I’ve been trained by Aleksandra and started going to workouts. Bowen therapy and Aleksandra’s approach have helped me. I will gladly recommend her.
Grateful for returning to a normal life,
Dušica Vasov
On September 8th, World Physiotherapist Day was celebrated in front of the “Society of Physiotherapists of Serbia.” The role and importance of manual techniques in physiotherapy is a key factor in patient therapy. The accredited lecture on Bowen therapy in physiotherapy was extremely well attended – I’m glad to see that my colleagues are determined to improve their knowledge and elevate the level and quality of therapeutic services. This is the beginning of our professional accredited lectures. See you in October at the next physiotherapist meeting.
